Mercedes Scientific is partnering with DiaPath this week at the USCAP tradeshow in Los Angeles, CA at the LA Convention Center. Both companies are collaborating to show off equipment in histopathology. DiaPath is an innovative, Italian-based company that focuses on creating a complete, reliable and quality portfolio of instruments, reagents and consumables totally dedicated to anatomic pathology. The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, abbreviated USCAP, is the largest North American organization of pathologists. It is the publisher to two major pathology journals, Laboratory Investigation and Modern Pathology. This is the 109th Annual Meeting, which is expected to attract around 4,500 attendees. The USCAP show is open from February 29 to March 5. Along with 146 exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall, several courses, presentations and lectures are available to attendees. Mercedes Scientific is at booth 935, while DiaPath neighbors at booth 939. Both will be showing off microtomes, cryostats, tissue processors, stainers and embedding centers, as well as educating attendees on key pathology processes perfected with the equipment on display.

The month of March brings the Luck of the Irish – Shamrocks, St. Patti’s Day, Leprechauns… Our first special-themed Henry for 2020 is Leprechaun Henry. He’s greener than a Shamrock Shake, and he’s in very limited quantities. This St. Patti’s Day plush won’t be bringing any pots o’ gold, but he’s sure to bring you luck all year long. He is expected to be out of stock BEFORE March 17th – so get yours before he disappears for good (no restocks on this one). Customers have to spend $99 or more, and request Leprechaun Henry with their orders. If ordering online, requests for Leprechaun Henry (and any other giveaway) can be placed in the Shipping Instructions field during the Checkout process.

Introduced early in 2019, Atomic Panda is Mercedes Scientific’s (MSI) newest mascot, joining the ranks of Henry the Histo-Potamus, and his wife Hazel. Atomic Panda (and his lesser know secret identity, the mild mannered lab tech Andy Pandy) have hosted MSI’s ongoing monthly Supply List Raffle, along with other promotions throughout the year. While Henry tends to speak to the Histology audience for the most part, Atomic Panda has more of a medical and wider laboratory focus. In 2020, Atomic Panda co-hosts with Henry in the 2020 Breakthrough Technologies Calendar – which is free with orders upon request, and offers monthly giveaways with prize questions. When his plush toy was shown off at the 2019 NSH trade show in New Orleans, LA, attendees loved the panda with the red shirt and red glasses – and they didn’t seem to know about him after months of exposure. The panda plush toy inventory was fully depleted by the end of the trade show.

The Grincho-Potamus is in stock for the holidays for you to add to your collection! Mercedes Scientific continues a tradition started back in 2017 with Count Histula – a vampire themed Hippo Plush giveaway made available for Halloween. Henry the Histo-Potamus is a popular and long-established company mascot that has a strong fan following – particularly with the Histology customers. Henry has been featured on all sorts of giveaways and products from mugs, mousepads, rulers, bags of paraffin, umbrellas, tote bags, Tervis Tumblers, hockey pucks, and in calendars and catalogs. Very often, Henry changes things up for the fun of it – keeping things interesting for customers and Mercedes Scientific employees alike. One of the most popular and standard Henry giveaways is the plush doll with squeaker. For years, the plush has gone out on customer order shipments – as long as the customer spends $99 or more, and requests their plush giveaway. The hippo plushes change colors roughly from year to year. But the new themed Henry’s are a little more of a special deal.
2017’s Count Histula was a great success, and it’s difficult to find one at MSI’s Lakewood Ranch, FL facility. Thousands were ordered, but now Count Histula is a SUPER RARE specimen. As a result, 2018 saw McHenry the Leprechaun, and not too long after that, Uncle Sam Henry. In 2019, the special-themed Henry’s became somewhat regular, getting a release roughly every quarter. Remaining Leprechaun Henry’s went out in March. Uncle Sam Henry was the star in July, Franken Henry stomped his way through October and some of November. And now, Henry the Grincho-Potamus is frosting through the holiday season. Classic Henry plushes fill in the months in between, and 2020 promises to bring even more new themed Henry’s every quarter. Hazel the Histo-Potamus herself might even get a change up in 2020. Stay tuned to see what happens!
